Anemone coronaria 'Harmony Double Blue'

Anemone coronaria 'Harmony Double Blue' is a delightful addition to gardens across the UK, celebrated for its vibrant early spring flowers and minimal care requirements. This perennial plant stands out with its compact growth habit and striking deep violet-blue blooms, each adorned with delicate white centres, which typically appear from March to April. The foliage consists of finely cut, mid-green leaves that provide a lush backdrop for the vivid flowers, creating a low mound that enhances the overall aesthetic of any garden space. Its versatility allows it to thrive in various settings, whether nestled in borders, showcased in containers, or integrated into rock gardens. Preferring full sunlight, this plant flourishes best in well-drained loamy or sandy soils, and incorporating organic matter like compost can significantly boost both soil fertility and drainage. To ensure the health and vibrancy of Anemone coronaria 'Harmony Double Blue', regular watering is crucial during the growing season, although care should be taken to prevent waterlogging. Once the plant is well-established, it can withstand moderate drought conditions, making it relatively low-maintenance. For optimal growth and a bountiful display of flowers, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring is recommended. Deadheading spent blooms will encourage further flowering, and after the blooming period, cutting the stems back to ground level prepares the plant for its dormant phase. In spring, a layer of mulch around the base will help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature, while a thicker layer during winter can protect the roots from frost. This hardy plant can endure temperatures as low as -15°C to -10°C, making it suitable for most UK climates. In areas with particularly harsh winters or excessive moisture, it may be prudent to lift the tubers after the foliage has died back and store them in a cool, dry location until replanting in spring. Anemone coronaria 'Harmony Double Blue' not only adds a splash of colour to spring borders and flower beds but also enhances patios and balconies when planted in pots, making it an excellent choice for rockeries and alpine gardens as well.Height: 45cm (18in).
