Juncus maritimus (Marginal Aquatic)

Juncus maritimus is a UK native marginal or bog plant that grows naturally in coastal regions and salt marshes. Tolerant of sea spray and brackish water, it is perfect for coastal gardens but also makes an attractive pond marginal in any location. It forms dense tufts of stiff, bright green, arching stems that create a strong vertical presence. In summer, the stems burst into loose clusters of brown flowers, providing additional interest.This low-maintenance plant thrives in damp, poorly drained soils, making it ideal for boggy areas or alongside ponds. With its upright, stiff growth habit, Juncus maritimus looks equally at home in contemporary water features, the shallow edges of  naturalistic ponds and bog gardens. Evergreen to semi-evergreen, Juncus maritimus provides valuable winter interest and winter cover for pond creatures and other wildlife. Height: 30-90cm (12in-35in). Spread: 60cm (24in).
