Symphyotrichum novae-angliae 'Purple Dome', formerly known as Aster novae-angliae, is a charming compact variety of New England aster that forms a neat mound adorned with stunning deep purple, semi-double daisy flowers. This plant truly excels in late summer and autumn gardens, where its tidy growth and vibrant hues make it a favourite among gardeners. Not only does it enhance the beauty of borders during the growing season's latter part, but it also attracts pollinators like butterflies and bees with its plentiful nectar.Growing to about 45 to 60 cm, 'Purple Dome' naturally develops a bushy shape that promotes good air circulation, reducing the risk of powdery mildew. Each rich violet-purple bloom, approximately 4cm wide, lasts around four weeks, providing a late-season burst of colour that benefits local wildlife. Thriving in full sun to partial shade and preferring moist, well-drained soil, this hardy perennial is adaptable to various soil types. With minimal maintenance, including annual pruning and clump division every few years, Purple Dome is perfect for late-season borders, cottage gardens, and even container arrangements.Height: 60cm (24in) Spread: 60cm (24in) .
