Thalia dealbata (Marginal Aquatic)

Thalia dealbata, often referred to as Powdery Alligator-Flag or Water Canna, is a striking aquatic plant that captivates with its unique architectural form and lush foliage. The plant features large, lance-shaped leaves that exhibit a beautiful blue-green hue, rising elegantly above the water on tall, sturdy stems. One of its most distinctive characteristics is the fine, white powdery coating that dusts the leaves, lending the plant its powdery name and imparting a silvery sheen that enhances its overall aesthetic. This visual allure makes it a standout choice for any water garden, where it can thrive and create a stunning focal point. As summer transitions into late summer, Thalia dealbata showcases its beauty even further with the emergence of tall, arching flower spikes adorned with clusters of small, violet-purple blooms that rise gracefully above the lush foliage. This plant is particularly well-suited for planting along the edges of ponds or in shallow water, thriving in depths of up to 60 centimeters. In the UK, it is deciduous, meaning it will die back during the winter months, only to re-emerge vibrantly in the spring. With its impressive sculptural foliage and ability to evoke a tropical atmosphere, Thalia dealbata is an excellent addition to any aquatic landscape, bringing both beauty and a touch of the exotic to your garden.Water depth: 10-60cm.
