Add a deliciously dramatic note to the late-season shade garden with Tricyrtis hirta 'Raspberry Mousse'! This unusual Japanese toad lily produces exquisite star-shaped flowers in rich wine-red, generously sprinkled with contrasting white spots. Appearing from late summer into early autumn, the intricate blooms are carried along slender, arching stems above glossy dark green foliage, creating an exotic display when many summer flowers are beginning to fade. The intricately formed, orchid-like flowers reward close inspection, while its tolerance of shade makes it an excellent choice for adding colour and interest to woodland borders. Plant it alongside foliage favourites such as ferns and hostas to create an appealing contrast of flower form, texture and colour.Despite its exotic appearance, 'Raspberry Mousse' is remarkably hardy and long-lived, bringing reliable late-season interest year after year. For something genuinely different, this captivating toad lily combines unusual colour, delicate flowers and elegant form beautifully. Ultimate height: 60cm (24in). Ultimate spread: 30cm (12in).
